Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott was honored at the 2017 annual meeting of the GWA: The Association for Garden Communicators as the inaugural recipient of the Cynthia Westcott Scientific Writing Award.

Newly established for 2017, the award “recognizes individuals with PhDs who communicate new ideas, concepts or scientific findings related to horticulture and gardening in terms that are easily understood by laypersons.”

Linda’s work includes four books—The Informed Gardener (UW Press, 2008), The Informed Gardener Blooms Again (UW Press, 2010), Sustainable Landscapes and Gardens: Good Science – Practical Application (GFG Publishing, Inc., 2009) and How Plants Work: The Science Behind the Amazing Things Plants Do (Timber Press, 2015)—aimed at addressing common gardening myths and misconceptions with science-backed information. She is also a founding member of the Garden Professors blog and Facebook group, “Advancing the science of gardening and other stuff since 2009.”
