Livestock Nutrient Management ADOPT (Anaerobic Digestion Optimizer)

ADOPT (Anaerobic Disgestion Optimizer)

Economic Modeling Tool

Ring graph comparing revenue sources for anaerobic digesters.

Economic issues work in progress:

  • Considering the volume and nutrient composition of each dairies’ contributing waste stream and the additional feedstocks determine how best to reallocate lagoon effluent nutrients relative to: meeting crop needs, soil tests, and redistribution capacity constraints.
  • Redistribution of lagoon effluent & compost:
    1. Crop needs, soil tests, application timing, environmental considerations and redistribution pumping capacity.
    2. Contributing dairy farms want to maximize crop yield and minimize/eliminate commercial fertilizer cost.
Graph comparing daily revenue generation of feedstocks vs electricity
    3. Apply as much lagoon effluent as possible subject to soil test information.
    4. Reallocation rules:
      • Volume and nutrient value contributed
      • Banking rule: deposits = withdrawals
      • “Share” return feedstock contribution
      • Compost: need to develop market
      • Nutrient testing throughout the AD system

Econonomic simulation model of operating the AD that accepts multiple feedstocks.
